Police Demand Fluid Samples During Random Traffic Stops?

It seems too strange to be true but local police in Texas are apparently asking drivers to provide body fluids during random traffic stops. Is the 4th Amendment in jeopardy?

(Western Journalism) In collaboration with a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study on impaired driving, several officers initiated traffic stops along the urban road, seeking a sample of blood or other bodily fluid from those they detained.

While those behind the study indicate that participation is on a volunteer basis, some drivers say the process felt mandatory.

"It just doesn’t seem right that you can be forced off the road when you’re not doing anything wrong," said local Kim Cope.

She said she eventually conceded, submitting a breath sample to the intimidating cop. Although participating law enforcement officers were supposedly authorized to pay drivers as much as $50 for their compliance, Cope said she received nothing but an inconvenience.
