Confirmed: Boehner Coup Called Off 30 Minutes Prior To Vote

One day after we reported that John Boehner won reelection to Speaker of the House by the skin of his teeth, Roll Call reported that the coup attempt against Boehner would have succeeded were it not called off 30 minutes prior to the vote.

Roll Call reported: "A concerted effort to unseat Speaker John A. Boehner was under way the day of his re-election to the position, but participants called it off 30 minutes before the House floor vote, CQ Roll Call has learned."

"A group of disaffected conservatives had agreed to vote against the Ohio lawmaker if they could get at least 25 members to join the effort. But one member, whose identity could not be verified, rescinded his or her participation the morning of the vote, leaving the group one person short of its self-imposed 25-member threshold. Only 17 votes against Boehner were required to force a second ballot, but the group wanted to have insurance."

"Even with 24 members, the group would easily have been able to force a second ballot round, but the effort was aborted in frenetic discussions on the House floor."

    1. If ALL Republicans would DO THAT, Anonymous, it woudn't change a thing. Many wouldn't do it, though, because we have PRINCIPLES! We HONOR our Constitutional Laws. While the Democrats have NOT come up with a budget, the REPUBLICAN HOUSE DID; and sent it to the DEMOCRAT Senate, where it was voted down, or not even brought to a vote! Since the 2010 elections, the REPUBLICAN-CONTROLLED HOUSE has passed and sent HUNDREDS of pro-America bills to the DEMOCRAT-CONTROLLED SENATE, which were either voted down, or HARRY REID refused to even bring them to a vote! Funny how the DEMOCRATS ALWAYS SUPPORT their party, while so many REPUBLICANS continue to RUN DOWN our party. Why can't WE solidly SUPPORT our Party LEADERS, as much as the Democrats support theirs? Our CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN leaders NEED our SUPPORT - NOT constant ridicule! After all, one-half of CONGRESS is ALL the Republicans control now. The DEMOCRATS have control of the other half of Congress, the executive branch,AND the Judicial Branch! It seems to me that the Republicans WE elected in 2010 DESERVE our SUPPORT, rather than ridicule and condemnation, for their hard work! Since the 2007-08 campaign, it's well-known that Democrats have used many kinds of VOTER FRAUD to gain and control the 2008 & 2012 elections, even THOUGH Obama STILL has not presented a VALID CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH to qualify even as a presidential CANDIDATE! The last two elections were not truly WON by the Democrats. BREAKING OUR LAWS on Election Days, and months and years following up to them, is not "winning". Reublicans are not "INTO BREAKING OUR LAWS IN ORDER TO WIN!" That's not the AMERICAN WAY! I don't know what "changing the name of our party" would accomplish; because the Democrats would STILL BE BREAKING OUR LAWS IN ORDER TO WIN ELECTIONS, no matter what we conservative Americans call ourselves! God bless America!

  2. Boehner likes big government & most Republicans go along with what big government-loving Establishment Republicans want. You simply can't trust them to fight for lower taxes & smaller, Constitutional government with a balanced budget. After being stabbed in the back by average Republicans so many times, I no longer trust them to do the right things. Seems to me we'd be better off leaving the GOP en mass & either joining a fiscally conservative 3rd Party (like the Constitution Party) or start a new 3rd Party. I think the GOP is not reformable & should be left to rot & die on its own.

    1. Anonymous, please explain HOW you "know" what "Boehner likes"! HOW do you know "most Republicans go along with the big government-loving establishment Republicans? I find just THE OPPOSITE to be true. I have never felt that I was "stabbed in the back by average, or any other, Republicans" at ALL! IMO, it's the DEMOCRATS who fit your description, PLUS all that voter fraud they commit! You don't "trust Republicans"? Does that mean you "trust" the DEMOCRATS who are bent on bringing down our country, under the "leadership" of an UNVETTED candidate who is obviously an Anti-America, self-serving, arrogant, narcissistic man who served only 43 days in the Senate, during which time he mostly just answered, "Present" - one who came "out of nowhere" in 2007, pushed and FINANCED by the America-hating George Soros and his vast organization which has been planning this for a LONG TIME?? The GOP doesn't NEED to "REFORM". It's the "new-age" democrats who need to reform - and go back to being the REAL democrats their parents and grandparents were. According to the asinine remarks you're making about Republicans and our leaders, I don't believe for one moment that you're a Republican at all. And I don't think you're "FOOLING" any OTHER true Republicans, either. It would be a sad, sad turn of events if the Republicans gave up and CAVED to the anti-God, anti-America Democrat leaders of today, who commit all kinds of voter fraud to get where they are. Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy, no matter the outcome. All REPUBLICANS I know ARE honest people. We live honestly, and we VOTE honestly! I trust conservative Republcians, I DIStrust liberal/socialist/"progressive" democrats -especially those who are FREELOADERS, whose votes are being BOUGHT by Obama and gang! May God intervene and help us take back our contry!

    2. THAT IS NOT TRUE. He has done a great job and now B.O. & HAIRY READ are going to be caught with a tax increase Just like daddy Bush READ MY LIPS. 12 DEMS VOTED FOR HIM AND LEFT THEIR PARTY. WE had a real DONKEY FROM TULSA who will be lucky to serve one term; unwisely voted with EMOTIONAL NOT A BRAIN; not sure if he has the capability to win nomination in 14.

  3. It is long overdue to abandon the Republican Party. It is becoming evident every day that they share the Democratic Party's wish for big and ever controling government. The most obvious contrast with the Democratic Party is that our Republcan leadership hasn't any passion for what they are supposed to champion. They, like the Democrats are more interested in their political career than standing up for the principles upon which this country was founded. It is time for a Constitutional Party.

    1. I agree with Anonymous. I have been a lifelong Republican, but the GOP establishment are just a re-election club. It is (past) time to abandon hope in them and form a Constitutional Liberty Party. We need somebody with principles who will stand firm. But how do we form a new party and make it work?

  4. So you agree with Anonymous, 04cda166-5917-lle2-9dc8? I, too, have been a lifelong Republican; and I couldn't DISAGREE more with Anonymous. We Republicans are definitely NOT a "re-eleciton club". If we were, more Republicans would have been re-elected during the last two national elections. True conservative Republicans are NEVER "quitters", which is what you're saying you are. The DEMOCRATS would just LOVE that! We have MANY "somebodys" with principles who will stand firm. It's our PRINCIPLES and the DEMOCRATS' VOTER FRAUD that "won" the last two national elections via voter fraud - vote-buying, rigged voting machines so they would change REPUBLICAN votes to DEMOCRAT VOTES, democrats voting MULTIPLE times each, etc.,etc. Republicans do not stoop to those low levels of intellect. We abide by our laws. Democrats IGNORE OUR LAWS - especially now, since he who calls himself our "president" has been setting that example since the 2008 election - at least. "How do we form a new party AND MAKE IT WORK? There's no NEED for that. There's a DIRE NEED for quitters such as you to SUPPORT our REPUBLICAN PARTY like never BEFORE! Quitters never win! Honest people never lose - in the long run! God approves of HONEST people. He DISAPPROVES of DISHONEST people. That's the bottom line; because HE is the HIGHEST POWER. The self-serving POLITICIANS just THINK they are.
