1980-Style Carter-Reagan Blowout On The Horizon

(AP) "As the 1980 presidential campaign moves to a close, national polls say the race between Jimmy Carter and Ronald Regan is too close to call." That was the lead from an Associated Press story published the day before the 1980 presidential election (you can see the image of the original story below). Of course, it turned out to be a blowout. Reagan picked up 489 electoral votes and NBC, much to the chagrin of the rest of the liberal media, had the audacity to call the election for Reagan at 8:15 PM because Reagan had already secured the 270 electoral votes needed to win.

  3. I remember that landslide so well! We had friends and family coming over for a night of watching election results. Preparing for a long night...the election was called for REAGAN about 6:30 central time. So, our get together evolved into celebration for the Reagan landslide!
