Pray During Mardi Gras And Go To Jail

You can drink until you drop in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. You can find strip clubs, prostitution and just about every decadent behavior known to man, but there's one thing that the powers that be in New Orleans will not tolerate on Bourbon Street... the Word of God.

WND.com reports that the city has instituted a “'Religious Speech Ban' that forbids such unapproved communication between the sunset and sunrise hours on the famous center for jazz and festivals."
“Those who violate section 54-419 by engaging in religious, political or social speech ‘shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined not more than $500, and/or imprisoned for not more than six months,’” according to a lawsuit filed over the controversial restriction.

  1. Well, think about it. Mardi Gras is a catholic fete thought up to make up for the loss of whatever they are giving up for Lent (another made up thing, not in the Bible). For Mardi Gras, they can sin all they want to and then give up chocolate for Lent, and they are "good to go". The whole thing is ridiculous and has nothing to do with God's commands, so it is no more ridiculous for the city to ban religious talk. Both paths lead to hell.

  2. Hi Anonymous from 6:16am: early up and spreading anti-catholic propaganda already? The catholic church doesn't condone sinning during Mardi Gras but enjoying life with wine and dance (and no fornication) and then taking a step back during the time afterwards, to focus on and prepare us for the rising of our Lord, Jesus Christ. To the question of religious freedom: If the description of the case is correct, no federal court should uphold this ban of religious, political, and social speech on public grounds.

  3. Anonymous is totally wrong. Mardi Gras originated in France as a Pagan festival the day before the commencement of the Lenten season when NO ONE was allowed to party during the commeration of the 40 days and nights when Jesus fasted before being Crucified. Catholics still take Lent seriously,it is not just giving up "chocolate"

  4. Jesus was accused of being a sinner because he ate with sinners (by Jewish definition) and didn't show signs of fasting as did some of the religious leaders. If New Orleans leaders were just wanting folks to have a good time, why would they ban the Bible and preaching during their celebrating? Is Mardi Gras only for open sinning?

  5. Yup! pretty silly policy. How ironic it all is. No religious speech during a "religious season". Mardi Gras is french for Fat Tuesday which was the last day of eating richly before practicing lent (usually with some type of fasting or giving up of something).
I don't know what's worse: the vile, despicable behavior that has become associated with Mardi Gras or the gradual stripping away of Constitutionally provided liberty of religious freedom and speech. To me it's the latter because once they are completely removed we'll have none.
