Should Congress Spend 5 Trillion Dollars To Cover The Moon With Frozen Yogurt?

Congressman Paul Ryan: "The American people are tired of all the accounting tricks and budget gimmicks that go on in Washington.... Imagine that we're at war for ten years... and we assume we're going to be fighting this war for ten more years.... Oh Gosh, wait, we're going to withdraw our troops in 2014; a trillion dollars in savings."

"I've got a better idea. Let's pass a bill to cover the moon with yogurt that will cost five trillion dollars today and then let's pass a bill the next day to cancel that bill. We could save five trillion dollars. Wait, I've got a better idea. Our debt is fourteen trillion dollars. Let's come up with a new plan to spend fourteen trillion dollars, rescind it the next day and let's save fourteen trillion dollars. This stuff is fiscal fantasy. You can't make this stuff up...."

  1. Typical politicians, forecasting savings in future expenditures for which they have no control...as they can not bind the spending of future politicians out to spend $$$$ for their special interest groups. Our Republic is doomed!

  2. They think that we're so sufficiently dumbed down, that they can say and do anything! This is why your kids should not be in public school!

  3. Well Rep Ryan, you are Right about your analogy, but I will tell you that YOU HAVE LET US ALL DOWN supporting the Ceiling RAW DEAL with Obummer and Reid/Pelosi. You decided to become one of the destroyers of our nation vs standing with the legislation you strongly put forth. This need not have happened and you know the newest COMMISSION is one to reward Obummer with TAX HIKES....COUNT ON IT.

  4. We could use that kind of trickery to pay off our national debt.We could pass a bill to pave all the streets in gold in all the cities in the US to the tune of 14.5 trillion and then rescind it the next day, saving 14.5 trillion and use that to pay off our national debt!
