Did Doctors Sentence A 12-Year Old Boy To Death To Avoid Admitting A Mistake?
Doctors told 12-year old Zach Fernandez's mother that her son was brain dead and
pushed her to sign an organ donor consent form. Shortly thereafter, it was not
only discovered that Zach was not brain dead after all but Zach was able to
breath on his own without a ventilator. A happy ending? No. Zach's mother found
out that in spite of Zach's improving condition, doctors secretly started
denying him food and water.
According to SperoForum Zach suffered "a gunshot wound to his head as a bystander during a drug-deal gone bad in Abilene, Texas" and "was transferred to Cook Children's Medical Center in Ft. Worth for advanced treatment" after emergency surgery at another facility. |
Doctors at Cook Medical Center "painted a grim picture" and "told
the boy's parents that part of Zach's brain was removed during his emergency
surgery... and encouraged them to sign an organ donation consent form." But, for reasons still unknown, and in spite of Zach's recovery, the hospital
did not acknowledge its mistake and instead of transferring Zach to palliative
care, the hospital, without the knowledge or consent of Zach's parents, issued a
"do not resuscitate" order and started denying Zach food and water. |
