(The Des Moines Register) "I wouldn’t consider anybody at this point to be a
frontrunner," Grassley, an Iowa Republican, said Wednesday in his weekly
conference call with Iowa reporters.
Asked about Santorum’s prospects, Grassley replied that the ex-senator will
benefit "only from name recognition, from nothing else." He then added, "Well,
maybe a little bit because there is a lot of loyalty among social conservatives
for him, and they have a big voice in our Republican caucuses.
"But I think you have to look at it, and he better look at it – and not just
Santorum, anybody; you have to look at it that this is a whole new ball game,”
Grassley said. “There isn’t one election year that is the same as the previous
election year. A new election is a new ball game. It is just a fact of life."
