Breaking: Akin Regains Lead Over McCaskill

A newly released poll by Wenzel Strategies shows that Congressman Todd Akin is apparently recovering from the lynching he has received at the hands of the media and the political elites within the GOP over a gaff made while attempting to defend his uncompromising belief that life is sacred and has regained the lead over Senator Claire McCaskill.

The Wenzel Strategies survey of likely voters, conducted over a two-day period on August 27-28, shows the embattled Congressman has surged back into the lead over McCaskill by a margin of 45% to 42%.
The poll shows that 13% of the voters are undecided but also shows that 80% of those surveyed have already made up their mind and are "firm in their choice."

Wenzel states: "Despite the firestorm of news in the Senate race over the past few weeks, most voters have already made up their mind in the race, the survey shows. The fact that 80% said they were firm in their choice certainly indicates that this is a race that will be decided more by ideology and turnout efforts by the campaigns and less by breaking news that flashes across the news pages and cable news channels. Overall, just 12% said they could change their minds before they vote, and 8% said they were very open to changing their minds before they cast their ballots."

In a related story, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman, Reince Priebus affirmed to the press that Akin won't be getting a dime of money from the RNC and urged Akin, once again, to drop out of the race (video below) in favor of a candidate who could win.

Akin responded, claiming that Priebus comment "betrays his apparent personal vendetta against" him and accused Preibus of "putting party power and political games ahead of the good of the country.”

Priebus' comments and Akin's retort apparently came before the results of the new poll were released and now that Akin has regained the lead over McCaskill, Priebus' willingness to reconsider his refusal to fund the campaign will determine whether there is a personal vendetta as Akin claims or Priebus' refusal to fund the campaign was indeed based on his assessment of Akin's chances of winning as he previously stated.
