And The Winner Is: Ron Paul????

As the old expression goes: "He who laughs last, laughs best," and if there is any truth to the latest rumor coming from GOP insiders, Ron Paul may actually have the last laugh when Team Romney hands him everything he has ever wanted on a silver platter at the Republican National Convention.

According to Business Insider, a well-placed Republican source claims that the Romney camp is giving serious consideration to putting Ron Paul's "Audit the Fed" into the party platform.

The Romney campaign would not return calls from Business Insider asking for comment, but the rumor has the air of one of those leaks that is intentionally meant to be leaked.

Business Insider is also reporting that the topic was initially discussed "during a recent meeting between Republican nominee Mitt Romney and Paul’s son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul" and that the Paul camp is already "working on specific language to present at the Republican National Convention in Tampa next month."

There is, of course, a potent justification for Romney to get behind Paul's "Audit the Fed" policy. Audit the Fed is well-liked by rank-and-file GOP voters and is one striking issue that would appeal to social conservatives and libertarians alike .

Including "Audit the Fed" in the GOP platform could also be an olive branch to appease Ron Paul enthusiasts who may descend on the convention and for Paul, making Audit the Fed a key part of the Republican platform would be just a bit of vindication and bring a battle that he has fought for three decades to an appropriate and well-deserved close.

Stay tuned....

  1. Add "Audit the FED" and "Criminally Investigate the DOJ" into the campaign.
