She not only is an extreme left-wing labor activist and co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union, she is also the honorary chairperson of the Democratic Socialists of America. The DSA is purported to be to be the largest socialist organization in America. They are also affiliated with Socialist International.
The Democratic Socialists of America is an organization that works with labor unions and college campuses to promote socialistic ideology. Michael Harrington, former executive board member of the Socialist Party of America, helped organize and map out the ideology and policies of the DSA in its early years. One of his goals was to reorganize the Democratic Party to officially make it the principle party of the left. DSA publishes a quarterly newsletter called, Democratic Left and runs a youth section known as Young Democratic Socialists.
I hope you note how often socialists use the terms or names Democrat or Democratic in association to Socialists. When you take time to read about many of them, you will quickly see that in their eyes, Democrat and Socialist are the same thing and can be used interchangeably.
Obama’s awarding the Medal of Freedom to Huerta signifies his embracing of others involved in socialist activities in the US.
