Lesbian Wants Priest Removed After He Denies Her Communion

(TheBlaze.com) Barbara Johnson and her family are calling for Rev. Marcel Guarnizo of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland, to be removed from his ministry. The family is making bold proclamations after Guarnizo reportedly denied Johnson, 51, communion at her mother’s funeral on Saturday.

Johnson, a lesbian, was joined at the church by her partner to celebrate her mother’s life. Just before the service, Guarnizo apparently learned about her sexuality and relationship. Then, during the service, when Johnson stood up to receive communion, the priest openly denied her.

“He put his hand over the body of Christ and looked at me and said, ‘I can’t give you Communion because you live with a woman, and in the eyes of the church, that is a sin,’” she explained following the incident.

    2. I have been waiting for just this...and, MORE of this for many years. The angels sing, the Blessed Mother sheds tears and the Holy Trinity sigh in relief for his bravery under fire..God blesses this faithful priest, and, thankfully, many of us do, also!!

  2. With all the Democrats pandering to everyone for votes, especially the Gays, you will see more of this outrage... Good for the priest... Too bad the bishops don't have more backbone in these matters...

  3. He probably left the altar because she was giving an eulogy. Eulogies are not given at Catholic funeral Masses. And his primary responsibility is to protect the Eucharistic species from profanation, which he did do. But he probably should have just silently given her a blessing at Communion time and not said anything to her.

    1. Who was in charge of the "order of service" at this funeral? The priest had to know that she was going to participate in the service. Maybe there were other relatives and friends who were going to honor the deceased with a few words or a eulogy. If the priest had a problem with Ms. Johnson, her mother, or anyone else, he should have settled the differences before beginning the service, or excused himself. But refusing communion to someone who asks for it while they are standing there is not appropriate.

    2. Sorry Anonymous... It doesn't work that way. Ms Johnson shouldn't be receiving the "Host" / communion as she is living in sin. THAT APPLIES TO ANYONE who's living in SIN... She would have to receive penance first and stop being gay to participate in Holy Communion, again. We can't pick and choose what scriptures to beleive or not. It's right there in the Good Book.

    3. I have searched, and searched, and searched the New Testament and I just can't find what Jesus had to say about gays and lesbians. Could someone please enlighten me.

    4. Father was being the Good Shepard living up to his promises. This woman was a cathoilc school teacher (how did that happen?) She knows the churches teachings. If she truly believed in Jesus Real Presence in the Eucharist she would not have created the scene. Then blame it on the priest.NO amount of gov. laws can excuse sin. God's not interested in our laws. We are here to show Hi Love by keeping His

    6. My wife and sons are Catholic, but I am not. I would not expect to receive Communion from a priest, and neither should the daughter. However, if the first sign the priest gave her of his refusal/inability to do so was a public crass demonstration to deny her of this at the memorial service, then the priest was a total ass.

    7. Dark Wing Dave. Those are not the words of Christ. Romans and Corinthians was written by Paul of Tarsus. Jude was written by... Jude brother of James (and by extension half-brother of Christ. He never self-identified as an Apostle and indeed, did not believe that Christ was the Son of God. So again I ask, please show me what Christ said about Gays and Lesbians

    8. Hans,
All Scripture is God breathed! All of it....is God's word. Jesus knew the prohibitions on sexual behavior and said to the prostiitute "Go and sin no more"

I am bound by the New Covenant. I am commanded by Christ himself to love others as he has loved me. I can not condemn another as I have no knowledge of their state of grace - only the Father knows that. I have to accept that there are things in this life I will never understand If follow your premise to its conclusion, that all scripture is God breathed and the work of one author has the same weight as the words spoken by Christ to human ears, then I leave you with James 2:13 "For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment."

  4. Chris Matthews (a Catholic), on the "Hardball with Chris Matthews Show," (which is not on FOX) said Communion is always given to those who ask for it, without question. Any discussions about personal matters should be conducted in private - not at a funeral and not from a pulpit and not in public. In an interview yesterday with him, Ms. Johnson also said the priest claimed he was sick and would not be going to the cemetary for the last words before burial. The funeral director found a retired priest to go to the cemetary. The priest did not follow church teachings, did not respect the deceased person, and did not perform his duties. The number of gay men and lesbians in the Catholic church, including the priesthood and the nunhood (?) is probably the same as the general world population. And their friends and families and co-workers are also in the same proportion. So who is "us"? One homophobic priest and the writer Anonymous are in the minority. They should be the ones who "go away." Hate and discrimination do not belong in society or in the Catholic church.

    3. Following the beliefs of the Catholic Church to not offer the communion to those who are openly sinning (as defined by the Catholic church as it pertains to those practicing homosexuality) does not indicate "hate." It is an indication that those who do NOT believe in the church teachings, church doctrine, or church mandates, want to change those things. Changing the doctrines of the church means it is no longer the church.

You cannot join a baseball team and say there is discrimination and "hate" there because they won't allow you to use the ball you want, wear the uniform you want, allow four strikes instead of tree, etc. In short, you cannot change the fundamental rules of baseball and still have it be baseball. If you want baseball to look and feel more like something else - join something else. If you don't like the rules of the Catholic church, why on earth would you want to belong? I, as a black man, would never want to change the rules and beliefs of the KKK just so I could feel comfortable being a member.

  5. A difficult situation - and the priest was technically correct. However, then was not the time or place to deal with the issue. Ultimately, the communicant is responsible for the profanation of the sacrament, whatever sin they bring to their act of communion. It would have been a different matter had it been a regular mass and the individual had a reputation of persistent, public opposition to the church's teaching on sexuality, marriage, etc.

  6. This woman was raised in the Catholic church and knew the rules before her Mothers funeral. Shame on her for trying to circumvent the rules of HER church!

  7. First off, Chris Matthews being a Catholic doesn't necessarily make him an authority on Church practices does it? Let's do it this way: John, who eats oatmeal every morning says that peristalsis ALWAYS occurs, without question and that when Sally was sitting on the commode was not the right time for Quaker Oats to fail to provide a satisfactory bowel movement. I brought it down to poop so even the most irreligious of you can see the idiocy of this woman. SHE was the one trying to make her little political statement. Anyone who says that communion is "always offered in public" doesn't know what they're talking about. The act of excommunication is, literally, removing one from the communion. It's a basic tenet, communion is no more a "right" than some of the other liberal hooey that people think they're entitled to today. And, don't throw out that "I'm a Catholic" line. Really? How often do you go to Church? Oh,you don't? That's ok, that must mean you spend tons and tons of time studying Canon Law and such, right? No on that one too. Hmmmm, do you even believe in the Catechism of the Faith? ALL of it? Seriously? Then, um, why exactly do you think you're Catholic? It's an ongoing process people. Just because Sister Mary Holypicture taught you algebra or once a year you go to Our Lady of the Second Collection Every Christmas Eve doesn't make you an authority, or actually even a Catholic. Sorry if that breaks your heart. Homosexuality is abhorrent to the Church. Deal with it. The Church doesn't change, you do. The proper compromise is not for the priest to bend to your view. There was never a need for the priest to even know you are a lesbian. You quietly introduce your partner as your friend and leave it at that. Go up, get communion if that was your real intention, and then the only conflict (or lack of one, btw) is between you and the big guy. See how easy that is? No, beyond a shadow of a doubt this woman did this do advance a political agenda, and is trying to hide behind the skirts of outrage and shock. I'm calling BS on this one! The emperor is bare ast naked!

    1. 100% agreed. I have never tried to confront PETA with how unrealistic it is for them to advocate the things they do. I simply don't join their movement. I assume that to be an "animal rights activist" would involve doing many things with which I do not agree. I certainly don't feel that they are racist, discriminitory, or anti "me." I just don't believe as they do so I don't attend their masses, eat their sacramental veggie platters, or put anything in their offering envelopes when they come across my doorstep. I don't want to be a part of "their" religion. Neither do I want to change their priests or their dogma. I stay away from their worship services they call information meetings and I don't the littlebibles of propaganda they pass out at VFW conventions. I stay away from them.

I suggest that this woman treat the Catholic Church the same way I treat people who hold beliefs with which I disagree. Stay away.

That way EVERYBODY is happy. The church should never change its tenets but she is free to do as she pleases.

we must call a sin a sin. How come I never hear people like you say Gay priests? They should have never been ordained

  9. Who in the world doesn't know the Catholic church's position on homosexual sex? This woman certainly knew and brought this situation on herself. She put the priest in the impossible position of either giving the Eucharist to a proud, defiant, public sinner or refusing her the sacrament and suffering harassment. He bravely chose the harassment. Most people are onto the Gay Agenda's "In Your Face" attempts to force others to accept and respect their homosexual relationships as normal. The fact that this woman chose to do this at her mother's funeral is unspeakably sad.

  10. Homosexual sexual contact (remember Sodom and Gommorrah?) is antithetical and anathema to Church teachings. This lesbo needs to find a non-Catholic Church which embraces gay sex and perversion. I hear that some priests in "blue states" just intentionally ignore the isolated depravity within their congregations for the sake of political correctness. When they meet their maker, they will join other priests who decided to enter Hades rather than Paradise. A wasted soul just not to "offend" gays..now THAT is the REAL tragedy...not the denial of the Body of Christ to a woman who fornicates. FIND A MAN AND GET MARRIED, you depravity!

  11. One more thing....conduct in a Catholic Church is not ruled by a DEMOCRACY Mr. Mathews! If the priest has doubts about the communicant's soul's readiness for the Eucharist, he has a responsibility to withhold Holy Communition from that communicant with as much Canon Law backing as he would if presented with a non-Catholic attempting to receive it. Separation of Church and State works in both directions.
