Obama Snubs Thatcher Again Refuses To Sent U.S. Delegation To Funeral

(The Commentator) [T]alk in London tell us that the British are not happy. "Friends and allies of Baroness Thatcher expressed 'surprise and disappointment' last night as it emerged President Obama is not planning to send any serving member of his administration to her funeral," reports the Daily Mail.

 

The Sun called it a "snub," and said that "Downing Street is most angered by rejections from Obama, First Lady Michelle and Vice-President Joe Biden.And none of the four surviving ex-US leaders -- Jimmy Carter, George Bush Sr, Bill Clinton and George Bush Jr. -- is coming either."

In March, Obama sent an official delegation to the funeral of Hugo Chavez, drawing criticism from across the House and Senate. Rep. Greg Meeks (D-N.Y.), former Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-Mass.), and James Derham, the charge d'affaires at the U.S. embassy in Caracas, were among those at Chavez’s funeral. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Republican of Florida, called the decision “weak and irresponsible" while Marco Rubio called at the time for the delegation to be cancelled.
